LET'S DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!

Ever since the days of organizing the summer event “Route of Sweden”, co-founder Tomas Jönsson thought of the idea of making an event during winter, but with “not typical winter beater cars”. But since a lot of time was spent on planning the summer events, this secondary  event was never put into action.

Then came the pandemic and changed everything – as pretty much all car events was canceled, and Route of Sweden was put on hold.

During autumn 2020 things looked brighter and the winter event “Snowscape Rally” was born with the intention of heading north to Sweden and Norway in January 2021. But we all know what happened with that virus, and the restrictions and guidelines kept us from crossing the border of Norway that time.

Instead we did a light version, only roadtripping within Sweden and following the current restrictions. 17 teams signed up for our very first adventure.

27/1 STOCKHOLM - SUNDSVALL

We started early at Strandvägen 56 and Kungliga Motorbåtklubben with super host Tom Bertling taking us all in, but unfortunately not joining us this first year.

After a shorter meet and greet for everyone we headed north through the Stockholm morning traffic, making some nice noise for the surprised morning commuters on their way to work.

First stop on day one – Sundsvall.
Arriving after dark we checked into Elite Hotel Knaust, with a quite impressive entrance we have to say.

Dinner was served at restaurant Herr Nilsson, where we had a really good meat platter and started the event with a rather calm first night.

28/1 SUNDSVALL - FUNÄSDALEN

The next day we took the rolling circus and headed from Sundsvall to ski resort Funäsdalen, also well known within car enthusiasts to have several track days every year on the lakes beneath the mountain.

First time on an ice track for some of the participants, and if you haven’t tried sending your car full throttle down a prepared ice track – You are up for some serious fun! Worst “offroad adventure” was without doubt Jocke who sent his RS6 pretty far out of the track.  After some digging and towing he was back on track, car undamaged luckily.

Some of us decided to wait with the track driving until Åre and headed out with a large group of snowmobiles, heading for the top of the mountain for some waffles and hot chocolate.

Judging by the pictures from the trip, it was a pretty nice day.

After a long day with a lot of driving both cars and snowmobiles it was well deserved to visit the spa at Eriksgårdens Fjällhotell where we also enjoyed a nice dinner together.
